Papers 1900-1990. Includes correspondence and writings of Jean Galbraith such as stories, verse and magazine articles, many concerning nature and its preservation; drafts of "A gardener's year" and miscellaneous diaries, notebooks and exercise books, some describing the plants and birds of the Tyers area. Also pressed dried local and European flowers. Also a notebook, 1906-1912, which containing lists of flowers and garden plans and which includes a handwritten transcript (by "A.R.B.", dated 1933), of the Diary of a voyage to Australia from England by Walter Briggs, Ship Peru, September 1st 1852 - January 7th, 1853 (shelved at MS BOX 3473/1). Updated EDA hardcopy of ' A guide to the papers of Jean Galbraith' MS12637 located with discriptive list.

Jean Galbraith (1906-1999) grew up on Dunedin, Tyers, a dairy farm in the Latrobe Valley, Gippsland, Victoria. Her parents fostered in her a love of plants and gardening and she began writing as a child. A selection of her articles was published as Garden in a valley in 1939. She became a highly respected botanist and contributed papers to The Victorian naturalist for over 50 years.
